Hello, Im Deb Boots of Boots Photography, a Brisbane wedding photographer that documents love stories and weddings through my pictures.
Im happiest when I have camera in hand creating images. Im a romantic at heart, believing the small moments count the most. I have been obsessed with photography for around 10 years. Yes that means i started getting serious about my photography in the digital age, but I did go back and play with a film camera experimenting with both 35mm negative and slide films.
I love capturing the stories of couples in love. Whether you are discovering your first love, celebrating the making of your vows on your wedding day, or one of the lucky ones that found their soul mate and celebrating a wedding anniversary.
Life doesn’t get much better than on a wedding day. Its a chance to get dressed up, have some laughs over a few too many drinks, catch up with family and friends, and have a boogie on the dance floor! I love it when there are tears and think every wedding needs to have funny story to tell …
Weddings definitely aren’t like they use to be … country, vintage and DIY weddings are extremely popular. I am particularly drawn to photographing styled weddings because there are so many quirky details to capture that help make your day unique. But more than that, they are focused on mixing something new and something old. The good parts of old-fashioned traditional weddings but with a modern twist – getting back to the reason why a couple marry ‘falling in love’ and bringing together the important people in the bride and groom’s lives to celebrate their union as husband and wife in more comfortable and relaxed surroundings and a whole lot of fun.
As a Brisbane wedding photographer I document the real wedding day story through my pictures. I also love creating beautiful couple portraits and find that brides and grooms are being drawn to a mix of photography styles. My style would be a mix of documentary, feminine and romantic, quirky and creative with contemporary couples portraits full of emotion, and throw in a few must have family portraits to keep your folks happy too. Even receptions aren’t boring any more with the come back of the vintage/retro photo booth. And yes we offer studio style photo booth sessions. I edit my photos to take on a film flavour giving them a beautiful soft colour palette.
While I spent my childhood and majority of my adult life in Sydney, I am now based out of Brisbane but I am available for weddings in any corner of Queensland as well as interstate and international wedding commissions. Most of my weddings fall in the areas from Noosa to Byron Bay in northern NSW to Toowoomba including the Sunshine Coast, Maleny, Gold Coast and naturally Brisbane. I love traveling so if you plan on getting married in regional Queensland, outside of Queensland or Australia – I have a current passport and my bags can be packed in a flash …
I love browsing wedding blogs for ideas, such as the Australian Hello May and Polka Dot Bride or international wedding blogs like Green Wedding Shoes, Style Me Pretty, Ruffled and 100 Layer Cake and of course Pinterest.
Im not one of those professional wedding photographers that concentrates on entering photography competitions to sprout Im an award winning photographer or Im a member of an photography industry organisation. I only bring this up because with so many photographers using this as credentials in their advertising, Im sure you are curious as to what it all means. To me, my couples come first every time and every time I pick up the camera, Im devoted to producing the best images I can for those clients, because at the end of the day it’s my clients opinion that matters and not judges – plus we all know art is subjective anyway. I believe that year after year continually taking bookings and being a full-time working professional wedding photographer, is sufficient evidence of my professional acumen, and besides business laws require me to uphold codes of ethics and standards first and foremost before any industry body. I also believe you need to understand the judging process before you can use it as a way of measuring the result. For example in the Australian Institute of Professional Photographers {AIPP}, the scoring system rates a score of 78-79 as being a Certificate of Attainment which basically means you are of a professional standard, and Id want to think if you are a member of the AIPP then you should already be of a professional standard. Receiving a Certificate of Attainment means you can sprout you are an Award Winning Photographer but means you just need to receive an award to say you are of a professional standard – get what Im getting at! I never stop educating myself whether it be through reading, good old fashioned experimenting on personal projects or portfolio shoots, as well as keep at the forefront of photography trends both in shooting and photo editing techniques. Now we have those boring bits answered, lets got on with the pretty stuff, the photography.
Id rather let my images speak for me, so please have a browse through the FEATURED LOVE STORIES on this page or head over to the LOVE STORIES BLOG for all my latest photography adventures as a Brisbane wedding photographer.

One little piece of advice when selecting your wedding photographer, is make sure you love the photographer’s work and remember its a one time deal so remember the advice we often hear in hindsight “you get what you pay for”.
